Rolex GMT-Master II
Keep track of ties

The Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II is designed to display the time in two time zones simultaneously. Robust and functional, it is the ideal watch for those who travel the world. Launched in 1955, the GMT-Master was a privileged witness to the boom in intercontinental flights in the second half of the 20th century. It even became the official watch of Pan American World Airways, at the time the largest American international aviation company.

By its functions as much as its name, the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II directly references time zones and long-distance travel.

A true tool watch, the GMT-Master has continued to evolve to offer ever more advanced technical performance. In 1982, Rolex introduced a new caliber, which allowed the hour hand to be adjusted independently of the minute hand and the 24-hour hand. To clearly mark this evolution, the model equipped with this optimized movement is called GMT-Master II.

One instrument, multiple time zones

The GMT-Master II features an instantly recognizable design with a graduated bezel disc available in different two-tone versions – the lower half of the disc symbolizing the daytime hours and the other, the nighttime hours. With its traditional display of hour, minute and second hands, its 24-hour hand which ends in a triangle and its bidirectional rotating bezel with 24-hour graduated Cerachrom disc, the GMT-Master II allows simultaneous reading of the time of two time zones: either local time and reference time, or local time and that of another time zone.

The current GMT-Master II is equipped with Caliber 3285, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. A concentrate of technology, this movement delivers high performance in terms of precision, autonomy, comfort of use and reliability. It includes the blue Parachrom hairspring, exclusive to the brand, and incorporates the patented Chronergy escapement. The movement benefits from a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.

High-tech ceramics

The Cerachrom bezel disc is made in one piece by Rolex from extremely hard ceramic. This high-tech material is virtually scratch-proof and maintains its vibrant colors over time. Rolex broke new ground in 2013 by introducing its first two-tone, one-piece ceramic bezel disc – blue on one half and black on the other. A year later, the brand unveiled a red and blue Cerachrom disc – the original colors of the GMT-Master. Rolex has carried out original and innovative research to develop a red ceramic corresponding to its aesthetic and quality criteria.

Over the years, Rolex has introduced other color combinations such as brown and black in 2018, and green and black in 2022 – on a version with the winding crown and crown protection shoulder on the left side of the watch, and the date display at 9 o'clock, and gray and black in 2023.

Superlative Chronometer Certification

Like all Rolex watches, the GMT-Master II benefits from Superlative Chronometer certification. This title certifies that each model that leaves the brand's workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests carried out by Rolex in its own laboratories and according to its own criteria. Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal attached to each Rolex watch and is accompanied by a five-year international warranty.
